Everything you need to know about ESIMs
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM, or digital SIM card, is a chip integrated directly into your mobile device. Unlike traditional physical SIM cards, there's no need to remove or insert a card into your phone. Everything happens digitally, through a simple download or profile activation.
The advantages of an eSIM compared to traditional SIM cards
1. Significant savings on international roaming charges
If you travel abroad frequently, you're probably familiar with the hassle of purchasing local SIM cards to avoid high roaming charges. With an eSIM, it's easy to download and activate a local mobile plan before you even land in your new country. You can compare offers from local operators directly from your phone and choose the one that best suits your needs.
This translates to:
- A significant reduction in roaming charges.
- No need to wait to buy a SIM card after your arrival.
- An immediate connection upon arrival in a foreign country.
2. More secure than a physical SIM card
eSIMs offer increased protection against loss or theft:
- Being integrated into the phone, it cannot be removed or inserted into another device.
- In case of phone theft, access to the eSIM profile can be quickly disabled remotely.
- eSIMs also reduce the risk of spoofing, which is often done with physical SIM cards.
3. An ecological option
Physical SIM cards require plastics for their manufacture and energy for their distribution. In contrast, eSIM eliminates these needs:
- Less plastic produced, therefore less electronic waste.
- Reducing the logistics transport associated with the delivery of SIM cards is an advantage for the environment.
By opting for an eSIM, you are joining a global trend towards more sustainable solutions.
How does an eSIM work?
Activation and management of eSIMs
Using an eSIM is easier than you might think. Here's an overview of the typical process:
- Choose an eSIM-compatible carrier: Most major carriers worldwide now support this technology. You can visit their website or mobile app to set up an eSIM.
- Receive a QR code or digital activation: Once you purchase an eSIM plan, the carrier will send you a QR code to scan or apply an activation via their app. This code contains all the information needed to set up the profile on your phone.
- Download your eSIM: By scanning the QR code, your phone automatically downloads your eSIM.
- Easy management: You can easily activate or deactivate your eSIMs according to your needs in the network settings of your device.
Stay connected with your loved ones with eSIM
What's App
Good news: our eSIMs are fully compatible with WhatsApp!
When you use an eSIM for travel, you keep your existing WhatsApp account as is, with your contacts, chats, groups, and media.
Here's what you need to know:
• You don't need to change your number on WhatsApp when you activate an eSIM for your travels.
• Your WhatsApp number remains associated with your primary number, even if you use an eSIM.
• The eSIM provides the internet connection needed to continue using WhatsApp, whether for messages, voice or video calls.
With an eSIM, you can enjoy a local or international data plan while continuing to use WhatsApp as usual, with your number and contacts who have the app.
WIFI calls
WIFI calling is an option offered by more and more telecommunications operators that allows you to stay in touch with your loved ones in the event of a lack of telephone network coverage.
It is possible to use our eSIMs to make or receive calls using your usual phone number via Wi-Fi calling. To do this, you will need to configure your primary SIM card to be used for voice calls only. Here's how:
- Open Settings
- Access Cellular Networks
- Make sure your default voice line is set to Primary (your regular phone number).
- Make sure the “Activate this line” option is enabled.
- Search for Wi-Fi Calling and turn it on.
- Make sure data roaming is turned off.
However, we recommend that you check with your carrier to see if roaming charges may be associated with this usage. We disclaim all liability for any roaming charges associated with this usage.
Choose my ideal package
Which package should I choose?
Choose your plan based on the length of your trip and your estimated usage. Our eSIMs are rechargeable at any time. If you run out of data or want to extend your stay, you can simply order a top-up plan on our website, and it will be automatically activated when your original plan expires.
We will notify you when you have reached 75% of your plan capacity.
Are you visiting several countries?
We have regional and global plans that cover multiple countries. Install a single eSIM and stay connected throughout your stay!
Installation or connection problems.
I get an error message during installation.
During installation, some devices may display an error message. Some devices will attempt to activate and connect your eSIM during installation. If they are unable to do so because you are not yet in the destination country, an error message may be displayed.
Before contacting us, please check your network settings; your eSIM is likely already installed. You'll just need to activate it when the time comes. If not, contact us and we'll assist you.
I installed my eSIM correctly but I have no connection.
We recommend that you check whether your eSIM is activated and that your roaming (data abroad) is also activated on your eSIM.
It is recommended to restart the phone to facilitate network connection.
Contact us after completing these steps if you still have connection problems.
